Embers Adrift is approaching its first anniversary, and the indie MMO is celebrating with an almost month-long event.
Starting on October 13th and running through November 5th, Embers Adrift players will have access to the subscription perks on their account, whether they sub or not. Ideally, this will bring returning players back to experience all that Embers Adrift has to offer while also enticing those who might be on the fence to check out the old-school-inspired indie MMO.
Crucially, alongside the sub perks, the game itself will be free to play for the duration of the event, making that barrier to entry even easier for those still wondering what Embers Adrift is all about.
In addition to the free access, Embers Adrift is also hosting GM events throughout the event period, such as invasion events or a hide-and-seek competition. Embers Adrift is also giving away special cosmetics that players can find in-game during the anniversary event.

Embers Adrift is an indie MMO made by first-time developer Stormhaven Studios. The MMO released last year, and while it definitely scratches an itch for players looking for more social, more deliberate old-school MMO gameplay, our review found it left a lot to be desired. However, the development team has been slowly improving the MMO since its launch, and has even changed the subscription model to make it more accessible, removing the requirement and instead opting for a buy-to-play model instead.

The longer you go as a video game franchise, the longer you’ll get to tell the story you desire, or the longer you get to impress gamers with your gameplay stylings and how you can improve things over time. For the Metal Gear Solid franchise, it’s always been about the story. Even from the game’s earliest days, you had deep stories and characters that helped make the game stand out from the crowd. The franchise is over 35 years old as a whole, but the “Solid” side is 25 years old, which got the PlayStation Blog to do a franchise breakdown.
