Players can earn Hero-Track gear by defeating Illidan in Black Temple Timewalking during this week's event!
Those looking to start Season 4 off with the best gear possible won't just want to take advantage of the Timewalking Dungeon reward cache — it looks like Disturbance Detected: Black Temple is also offering a Cache of Timewarped Treasures that is dropping Season 4 gear.
To accept this quest, head to Shattrath and speak with Vormu, right in the center of the city (/way 54.6 39.0).
From there, you'll just need to find a group to clear Black Temple, and the gear is yours! Keep in mind, the only requirements for the quest are to defeat Illidan — and to collect the Timewarped Illidari Battleplans that drop from him. This means that if you can find a group with an Illidan lockout already, you can skip the rest of the raid.
Something important to note: as of the publishing of this article, some players have experienced a bug where items you obtain from the Cache of Timewarped Treasures are not compatible with the Catalyst. That means that while boss loot at 493 can be transformed into Tier and Raid pieces through the Revival Catalyst Console, potential 506 gear from the Cache cannot.

While Black Temple Timewalking can award 493+ item level gear this week, we've also confirmed that the Cache of Timewarped Treasures quest reward can also drop the elusive Ashes of Al'ar! Courtesy of and congratulations to Skiko! In over a decade since the Burning Crusade, the Ashes of Al'ar are not particularly difficult to obtain at this point, as virtually any one at or near max level can quite easily solo Tempest Keep and defeat Kael'thas Sunstrider within, it remains a rare and highly coveted mount. Although a common misconception, it does not drop from Al'ar itself. Despite popular misconception, the Ashes drop from Kael'thas rather than Alar. Whether or not you are particularly interested in this mount, it's a good idea to head over to Shattrath and pick up Disturbance Detected: Black Temple anyway.
New to Season 4, the Hero Track no longer requires Aspect Crests and you only need Wyrm Crests to hit Hero 6/6. It seems this wasn't intended.
New to Season 4, the Hero Track no longer requires Aspect Crests and you only need Wyrm Crests to hit Hero 6/6. If you have a Hero Track piece and go to the upgrade Vendor, you'll notice that for Rank 5 and Rank 6, you only need Wyrm's Awakened Crest.
