Dune: Awakening Is Looking Supremely Cool – As It Was Written

A new AAA game is in the works at Skybound Entertainment. Since Skybound's announcement in 2022, there have been several games over the years, largely due to the popularity of the Amazon Prime animated series, these have consisted of a Fortnite raid called, in which players assumed control of Cecil Stedman’s elite GDA Agents with a party of up to six players, Ubisoft's idle squad mobile RPG,, and the visual novel,, but fans have still been vocal in their desire for a full AAA title in the same vein as that focuses on Invincible himself, Mark Grayson.

Ninja Theory's upcoming Hellblade 2 might very well be the best-looking Unreal Engine 5 title to date, although it will ask a lot from the Xbox Series X.

It's official – Dune 3 is in development. Dune: Part Two has proved a huge success so far, crossing the $600 million mark at the box office and surpassing the first film's total, so it's perhaps not a huge surprise.

Dune: Awakening from developer Funcom has a lot of hype to live up to in the wake of two inescapable films from Dennis Villeneuve based on Frank Herbet's legendary sci-fi novels. Thankfully, it seems to be on track, judging first from the scorching gameplay released at the start of the month and now glowing preview coverage from outlet IGN, which has us more hyped than ever. We still don't have a release date on this one, but it has been foretold that it will come to PS5, someday.

The developers who created the Company of Heroes, Relic, were officially sold by Sega, so they are now standing as an independent studio. Relic was first founded in 1997. A handful of years later, it was almost picked up and purchased by Bethesda Game’s parent company which is called ZeniMax, but that deal didn’t proceed.

A decade or so ago there was a period when all videogames and especially all Unreal Engine videogames had to be brown and grey and dingy. "The Gears of Warrification of graphics," we used to call it, huddled up in the chest-high trenches with our Xbox 360 controllers. Survival MMO Dune: Awakening threatens to bring that back in a big way: the novel and films on which it’s based unfold, after all, on an entire planet made of sand.
