Dark Souls-style shooter Remnant 2 passes 1m units sold in a week

We've known Baldur's Gate 3 was selling extremely well on Steam since day one. After all, Larian's triple-A cRPG broke various concurrency records on Valve's platform, reaching rank #9 on Steam's all-time concurrent player chart with a peak of 814K users. Last Sunday, the game registered a new peak of 875K concurrent users, nearly matching the eighth game on that chart (Hogwarts Legacy, another massive success in this year of records, which peaked at 879K on Steam).

Remnant 2 has been out for a few weeks now and continues to please fans with its great gameplay and massive amount of replayability. With its success, players are curious about what’s next for the latest offering from Gunfire Games, including whether we can expect crossplay anytime soon.

With a million sales to its name already, a lot of people are playing Remnant 2 right now, and developer Gunfire Games has confirmed its currently figuring out a way to give all of them the opportunity to play together, regardless of platform, through crossplay — meaning everybody's pool of potential co-op partners could soon get a whole lot bigger.

Remnant 2 made waves as one of this year’s most-played RPG games, succeeding its predecessor’s peak player count and then some. From its punishing combat to its extensive lore, Remnant 2 is an adventure worth taking, boasting dozens of hours of exploration and third-person blasting. However, there is one important feature that the game launched without, and it’s crossplay play between PC gamers and those on consoles. Remnant 2’s game director David Adams recently spoke on the issue, and it looks like crossplay may happen one day after all.

Gunfire Games launched Remnant 2 several weeks ago to strong critical acclaim, selling over one million copies in less than a week. It had some issues, which the team has been handling, but there are also questions about upcoming features, like crossplay. While it wasn’t discussing the same before launch, game director David Adams has confirmed that the team is “looking at it.”

Remnant 2 has been a trending game since its release on July 25. Recently, Game director David Adams hosted an AMA on the Remnant subreddit. It was a generally positive AMA, with many fans expressing their love for Gunfire Games’ latest title. Adams discussed the future of Remnant 2, revealing that the studio has plans for DLC and updates to the game’s quality of life.

The Metal Gear franchise has been dormant for a while now. It’s last major release was Metal Gear Survive in 2018, and if you want to completely ignore its existence (which, why wouldn’t you), you’d have to go back to 2015 for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. And yet, despite being treated like a forgotten step-child by Konami, the series is managing to attract its fair share of new sales.

Capcom has updated its list of Platinum Titles, providing updated sales figures for Monster Hunter titles (among others) as of June 30, 2023. Unsurprisingly, the action RPG continues to be a steady seller for the Japanese company.

Eldrimar is an upcoming RPG game that I am genuinely excited about, especially as someone who has long been awaiting The Elder Scrolls 6. By blending the disturbingly dark setting of soulslike titles with the familiar first-person gameplay of Skyrim, Eldrimar builds itself into a unique fantasy experience. As a fan of all things medieval, especially when such elements are thrust into fantastical or magical worlds, I would definitely say that Honor Games’ upcoming title is at the least, a very fascinating one.
