The Bed of Chaos is a piece of shit. Let's not sugarcoat it. Nobody likes fighting this thing and, if you say you do, no you don't. It mixes platforming with wonky hitboxes and a lengthy rush to the fog wall in what is one of Dark Souls' most frustrating segments.
For 12 years it's plagued fans, looming on the horizon of every playthrough as we dread coming face-to-face with it, but one modder has finally made it bearable.
King Bore's revamped Bed of Chaos crawls around its massive arena instead of staying idol at the back. The ground no longer shatters to reveal an instant killing abyss, so you won't be expected to time jumps against unpredictable swings of an unforgiving arm.
There's also no gimmick - you don't have to run to the left, smash the orb, run to the right, smash the orb, jump across the center, and smash the bug. You just have to hit at it until it dies like any other boss, dodging its retooled attacks.
If you're on console, I'm so sorry. You're stuck with the Bed of Chaos forever. But you can always hide in the corners and use a bow and arrow. Better than platforming at least?
The mod isn't finished yet, but you can see it in action in a clip King Bore shared on Twitter. They still have some AI and stat tweaks to make, but already it looks leagues better. I can easily see this becoming an essential mod for anyone diving back into Dark Souls for the umpteenth time.
Of course, playing against this Bed of Chaos will mean learning an entirely new boss fight for a game that came out in 2011, but there are already some neat little tricks to consider. The Bed of Chaos is a demon, sitting at the heart of Lost Izalith, so King Bore made it weak to Black Knight weapons like its kin. We can also see in the video that King Bore mostly sticks to attacking the hands, but moves closer in when it unveils its area-of-effect firestorm attack.
It's mostly modified animations originally made for crawling Bed of Chaos (with a couple of animations used by actual Bed of Chaos).
King Bore says that the revamped boss will be part of their Lost Izalith Swamp cut content mod. For context, the back half of the first Dark Souls was rushed to get the game onto shelves, which shows in the copy-pasted enemies littering the flaming wastes of Lost Izalith, but we do know a little about what was originally planned, which King Bore is lifting from in their drastic overhaul.
We can expect the top half of the infamous dragon asses, resulting in the Crawling Undead Dragons, as well as the flaming dogs and poison dart enemies from other areas. Much of this doesn't fit the infernal hellscape, including the grass you can spot in certain areas of the existing level, so King Bore is transforming it into a swamp similar to
