AMD Ryzen CPUs are leading in the Korean DIY sales charts against Intel's Core lineup with Ryzen 5 being the choice of gamers.
The new market analysis has been published by Danawa Research who does a great job of analyzing the market trends and unit sales/shipment figures across various retail outlets in the country. The latest analysis was conducted up till March 2024 and shows that AMD Ryzen CPUs are still the best choice among gamers with Intel Core CPUs not trailing far behind.
At the end of 2023, the Korean DIY segment saw a massive change when AMD Ryzen CPUs started to outpace Intel Core chips. In 2024, AMD Ryzen CPUs are now even more popular, having a share of up to 56.5% (as of February 2024) with Intel going down by as much as 43.5% (as of February 24). This is marked as the first time since July 2020 that AMD has managed to beat Intel by a share lead of more than 10%.
In terms of CPUs, it looks like the South Korean market is mostly going after the mainstream lineup with a few high-end models. Surprisingly, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600 is the most popular model which amounts to 11.8% of the share. This is interesting since the Ryzen 5 5600 is an older AM4 CPU but it looks like gamers find it to be great value due to the low platform costs associated with AM4 and its DDR4 memory compatibility. The second and third most popular chips are the Ryzen 5 7600 & the Ryzen 5 7500F, both of which have a share of 9.3% and 7.7%, respectively.
These are the most entry-tier Ryzen 7000 SKUs that you can find on the AM5 platform and it makes sense why they might be so popular with gamers. These two chips allow users to make a low-priced upgrade to the AM5 CPU platform, giving them more options to upgrade to in the future without changing their PCs too much.
The AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is the fourth most popular choice with a share of 6.2% and this chip is regarded as one of the best gaming processors on the market right now with superb efficiency. In the US, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D has become the popular choice after it outpaced the Ryzen 7 5800X3D in terms of sales. Furthermore, the CPU has been available at great discounted deals ever since it launched.
The only Intel CPUs on the charts are the Core i7-14700K (6th Position) and the Core i5-14400F (7th Position). With the recent reports of gaming instability on the 14th & 13th Gen family, we can see increased CPU sales on the AMD Ryzen side of things. Korean DIY builders and pre-built buyers are already returning their systems after facing
