Tekken 8 launched last week on the back of plenty of excitement and widespread critical acclaim, and the fighter’s sales seem to be reflecting its critical success. In the UK, at least, the game has got off to a remarkably better start than another recent major fighting release.
As per GamesIndustry’s Christopher Dring on Twitter, in the UK, Tekken 8 sold twice as many physical copies at launch than Street Fighter 6 did upon its release last June. Capcom’s fighter was also available on PS4, while Bandai Namco launched its game as a current-gen exclusive. Of course, how close the two games’ launch sales are in the region when digital is also taken into account is the pertinent question here, but if the physical sales are anything to go by, it might be a noticeable gulf.
Upon release, Tekken 8 also saw a peak of nearly 50,000 concurrent players on Steam, which is well over twice as much as what Tekken 7 managed in its lifetime. Prior to release, series director and producer Katsuhiro Harada also revealed that the game’s demo had resulted in boosted pre-order numbers.
In our review of Tekken 8, we awarded it a score of 9/10, saying, “Tekken 8 is a shot in the arm for the series, advancing the story while offering addictive combat, exceptional presentation and a suite of features to attract new and experienced players.” Read the full review through here.
Tekken 8 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Last year I was surprised at how low Street Fighter 6’s UK sales were at physical retail (it did fine digitally). I wondered if it was a genre trend, but Tekken 8’s UK physical sales are good, and more than double the launch of SF6. So… who knows? Maybe it was the competition

2024 has already had a number of major releases, and in that list, Tekken 8 has turned out to be among the most successful. The newest entry in Bandai Namco’s fighting franchise launched last month, instantly being met with widespread acclaim from critics and audiences alike, and it’s seeing commercial success to match, to the extent that Bandai Namco says the game’s sales are “better than we’d hoped for at this point”, as shared by journalist Takashi Mochizuki on Twitter.
Game developers have long sought to make a greatStarship Troopers video game, but no one’s ever come as close as Arrowhead Game Studios’ recent release, Helldivers 2.

Some Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth fans are pretty convinced a major Crisis Core character is about to re-emerge in the remake sequel.
The main games lineup for Evo 2024 has been revealed, and to the surprise of no one, Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 are the headline acts. Those heavy hitters will be joined by Guilty Gear Strive, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, Under Night In-Birth 2 [Sys:Celes], Mortal Kombat 1, King of Fighters XV, and Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike (the latter being Evo's 'retro' pick for 2024).
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been quite divisive thus far, with lots of discussion online about the pros and cons of this anti-hero looter shooter. However, it appears to be doing just fine when it comes to sales; in the UK, the game has arrived at number one on the physical retail chart, selling over 80 per cent of those copies on PS5.
Got a hole in your pocket? Well, over 2,000 fresh PS5 and PS4 deals have been deployed on the PS Store, which means any hopes you had of saving money at the start of the year are likely in tatters right now. The savings do include a lot of DLC, so keep that in mind – but you’re generally looking at some big discounts on slightly lower profile games.
After more than 1,000 attempts, an Elden Ring streamer has beaten the game without taking a single hit and using a randomizer mod to change every enemy.
Fighting games may well be going through their best period in gaming history. Between Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat 1, Tekken 8, and so many other great games released in the last year alone, there has never been so many top-tier options. There's also never been a better time to rep your favorite fighting game as Uniqlo has added some brand new Street Fighter and Tekken graphic t-shirts to its growing collection of video game merch.
In a world of monsters, assault rifles, and monsters with assault rifles, the simple sword may seem trivial. Palworld’s Sword, however, is more than just a weapon — it’s a surprisingly helpful multitool that can save you tons of inventory space.
Apple has always been quiet about its plans and new innovations and the same applies to artificial intelligence (AI). However, it looks like Apple was caught on the backfoot when most of the other big tech companies like Microsoft, Google, Meta and even OpenAI stole all the AI thunder over the last year. Now, Apple is looking, not just to catch up, but overtake everyone else and for that, it has gone on a warpath - an acquisition spree in order to ensure it conquers this new technology in every way. So, even as it's working on its AI initiatives in-house, it is being reported that Apple has gone on the warpath and gobbled up more than 30 AI startups last year, which is shockingly higher than any other tech giant's investment.
