Google has finally taken the covers off its project Gemini, after almost a year-long secrecy, and the world now gets to take a look at its capabilities. Google Gemini is the company's largest AI model and is a multimodal AI system capable of producing outputs in images, video, and audio formats in its most powerful version. The AI model will be competing with OpenAI's GPT-4 directly, and the first shots have already been fired by Google. At its launch, Google, without really looking to do a comparison, claimed that its Gemini AI model beats any other models out there in most of the benchmarks. Google Gemini AI has been launched on Wednesday and it has been injected into its Bard chatbot. This is a new-generation artificial intelligence model and, although Google executives refused to compare it with the OpenAI chatbot, it is being hyped up as being able to reason better than ChatGPT and other rivals. "This is incredible momentum, and yet, we're only beginning to scratch the surface of what's possible," Google chief executive Sundar Pichai said in a release. Generative AI is attracting a significant level of investment, including in the gaming space. Titan AI, a new mobile games studio, raised over $500,000 in pre-seed funding led by Berkeley SkyDeck. Titan AI joins several other generative AI gaming startups that aim to reduce the cost and speed of creating 2D and 3D content for games. Depending on the complexity, mobile games can cost upwards of $250,000 to make.

In a surprising turn of events, Google has decided to postpone the highly-anticipated launch of its AI model, Google Gemini AI. Initially scheduled for release next week, the company has now rescheduled the launch to January. A team of artificial intelligence (AI) researchers has successfully exploited a vulnerability in OpenAI's generative AI model ChatGPT, as per a study published by them. Researchers used a simple prompt to trick the chatbot into revealing personal information of individuals including name, email address, phone number, and more. Surprisingly, the study claimed that the team was able to repeat the exploit multiple times to extract 10,000 unique verbatim memorized training examples. The extracted personal information is believed to be embedded deep into the system's training data, which it should not be able to divulge, and is a major privacy concern.

There's a certain kind of scam, old as time, that revolves around selling people something that tells them to sell the same thing. That's not how it's presented, of course. Take a bow Jake Ward, not only the latest guy who wants to make money by selling you a pipe dream but a pioneering example of an AI scammer. Mr. Ward's modus operandi is simple. Creating content is hard. So why not just use AI to steal it? This isn't even me putting words in his mouth: Ward is flagrantly open about what he's proposing, calling it a «heist» in some vain effort to make it seem daring and sexy rather than theft. «We pulled off an SEO heist that stole 3.6M total traffic from a competitor,» said Ward on X. «We got 489,509 traffic in October alone.» Half a million clicks isn't anywhere near what a major site would pull in a month, but it is a considerable amount of traffic nevertheless: and certainly of a scale where you could be selling a lot of ads. And Ward did it by using AI to rip-off an unnamed competitor's content. Ward's company is registered in the UK as Content Growth, which is certainly a nice euphemism, and the methodology is as brazenly unapologetic as you get. Ward says that he: «1. Exported a competitor’s sitemap 2. Turned their list of URLs into article titles 3. Created 1,800 articles from those titles at scale using AI 18 months later, we have stolen: — 3.6M total traffic — 490K monthly traffic»
