The new Cortex-X5 design from ARM appears to be running into problems, with a new rumor stating that the super core is experiencing severely high power consumption at raised clock speeds and offering diminished multi-core performance when that maximum power limit is reduced. While this may not be an issue for Qualcomm as its Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is said to adopt custom CPU designs, MediaTek may be sweating profusely as it has to eventually announce the Dimensity 9400, which is said to adopt the same Cortex-X5 in its CPU cluster.
In a previous rumor, the Dimensity 9400’s CPU cluster was rumored to include the Cortex-X5, with three Cortex-X4 that would challenge the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 with a multi-core score of nearly 10,000 points. However, while we were impressed with these results, we could not provide an impartial overview without knowing about the power draw first, and according to Revegnus on X, a rumor out of China states that the Cortex-X5 is underperforming in both performance and efficiency.
A bump in clock speed is said to drive the Cortex-X5 power consumption through the roof, whereas reducing those frequencies has an adverse effect on the overall multi-core score. This means that ARM and MediaTek will need to collaborate further and tweak the Cortex-X5 to achieve the ideal balance, otherwise, there is little benefit to obtaining a high multi-core score with equally high power consumption.
Looking at this rumor, Apple’s A18 Pro appears to be the better prospect because even though it scored lower than both the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400, the company will likely prioritize ‘performance per watt’ while giving up a little performance to achieve unrivaled battery life. On the other hand, Qualcomm and MediaTek could be playing catch-up unless additional optimizations are not carried out.
However, since it is just another rumor, we want our readers to treat it with a pinch of salt, and we will be back with more updates. After all, the Dimensity 9400 is said to be mass produced on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process, so the improved efficiency might be enough to offset whatever power surge the Cortex-X5 might be witnessing at this time.

After SMIC was reportedly setting up chip production for Huawei to start mass production of 5nm wafers later this year, China’s biggest semiconductor manufacturer is now rumored to be assembling a team dedicated to 3nm chip development. For obvious reasons, the company will seek aid to help achieve this monumental goal and, in the process, obtain complete autonomy from foreign companies and the tight grip that the U.S. has on them.
Oppo showcased the prototype of its new smart glasses, the Oppo Air Glass 3 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). Ever since then, these smart glasses have been creating a lot of buzz due to the advanced features and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI). Significantly, Oppo Air Glass 3 provides a perfect example of how the future of smart devices will likely look like. While leading players such as Meta Platforms have already entered the race of building smart glasses, companies like Apple are also reportedly working to build something similar. However, do note that the Oppo smart glasses have not been launched in the market yet.
The first trailer for Fallout has arrived – and we are so ready.
Netflix’s new Adam Sandler movie is unique in the Sandman canon: Despite sending the comedic actor to space for an encounter with an oversized alien spider, most of the potentially corny laughs are swapped for melancholic tears. Like Solaris, The Fountain, and Ad Astra before it, director Johan Renck’s Spaceman is a meditative intragalactic drama orbiting around a heartfelt performance from Sandler. It’s not the first movie with the kind of visual effects that demand an actor’s unbridled imagination, but filming Spaceman was a test that took him outside his comfort zone.

Between them, ’s two most recent titles, and, have established and maintained a variety of popular gameplay features. However, it may be time to set aside one such staple of the games unless major changes are put into effect to keep the gameplay fresh. The franchise constantly provides new experiences, but this also means that many individual mechanics seldom appear for more than one or two games.
Terror at Oakheart is a brand new horror RPG explicitly inspired by classic slashers from the '80s and '90s, and less explicitly by NES and SNES horror games like Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Clock Tower. It only just released this week, but it already has 96% positive Steam reviews at the time of writing, as well as a free demo that any self-respecting horror fan would do well not to miss.
There are some seriously difficult Pokemon challenges out there, and one streamer has managed to overcome what's debatably the hardest of them all – a Kaizo Ironmon run – after a whopping 1,786 attempts.
Apple’s iron grip on the ARM notebook and desktop space might be coming to an end, starting with Qualcomm and its Snapdragon X Elite. However, one rumor claims that Huawei is another player to enter this space, and there are claims that the former Chinese giant has already developed a competitor to the M1. Then again, the company might have obtained dependency from a slew of foreign companies in a bid to jumpstart its smartphone business, starting with the Kirin 9000S, but that does not mean that there are no other hurdles that need to be scaled.
Smite 2 was revealed as a standalone sequel to the third-person god-battling MOBA last month, using Unreal Engine 5 for a visual overhaul on the front end while making a number of significant gameplay and balance changes behind the scenes. Ahead of its planned alpha test this spring, developers Titan Forge have now shown off how the game’s Conquest mode will be evolving.
