PS5 Packaging No Longer Mentions 8K, Some Fans Accuse Sony of False Advertising | Push Square

No one seems to know when it actually happened, but at some point, Sony removed the big '8K' resolution logo from the PS5's packaging. If you bought a PS5 within a year or two of its launch in 2020, you'll have probably noticed that the box proudly displayed an 8K stamp right alongside the 4K and HDR logos that are still present today.

Elden Ring's Massive Shadow of the Erdtree DLC Doesn't Have Any Trophies on PS5, PS4 | Push Square

Shadow of the Erdtree, the massive Elden Ring expansion that's releasing on the 21st June, won't bring any new Trophies to the open world RPG. This info comes from the ever-reliable PlayStation Game Size, and we can't help but be left baffled by FromSoftware's decision.

Concord PS5, PC Will Reportedly Require a PSN Account to Play | Push Square

Firewalk Studio's upcoming shooter Concord will reportedly require a PSN account, which aligns with Sony's demonstrated strategy. Starting first with the multiplayer hit Helldivers 2 and then again with the single-player epic Ghost of Tsushima's Legends multiplayer component, the firm seems quite committed to making prospective PC players create and link to PSN, no matter how furiously they might protest.

Xbox Really Wasn't Happy with PlayStation's Call of Duty Marketing Deal | Push Square

Microsoft has spent $69 billion on Activision Blizzard, so now it calls the shots when it comes to juggernaut franchise, Call of Duty. Of course, previously, starting with Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 in 2015, Sony had marketing dibs on the series, which meant it could advertise annual entries in the FPS outing specifically for PS4 and latterly PS5. It also would enjoy some small benefits, like early access to betas, exclusive cosmetics, and, in some instances, even extra modes.

PlayStation Fans Are Losing Their Heads Over an Iffy Portable PS4 Rumour | Push Square

There’s an unsubstantiated rumour increasingly gaining traction on social media which claims Sony is on the verge of releasing a new handheld device which will play PS4 games natively. The source – which has been widely reported on by gaming media – appears to stem from a single Russian social media account, and has been retweeted thousands of times. We’ve been unable to corroborate the story.

PS5 Needs to Do a Better Job of Alerting You to the Things Going on in Your Games | Push Square

The PS5 is a fantastic console, but increasingly we’ve been feeling that its operating system doesn’t feel designed with modern games in mind. This is particularly ironic when you consider Sony’s live service push: Helldivers 2 has already struck big, but it’s desperate to add Concord or Fairgame$ to the mix.

For years now, Sony has been criticised for its supposedly samey first-party software. You’ve probably seen that meme circulating on social media, which shows a trio of trees from God of War, The Last of Us, and Days Gone. It’s nonsense, of course, how do you even make different looking trees? But it obviously represents an underlying sentiment: that PlayStation’s exclusives all look and feel the same, with overly serious storylines and hyper-realistic visuals.

There's a Damn Good Reason to Buy Astro Bot Physically on PS5 | Push Square

Like it or not, the industry is rapidly moving away from physical releases. That doesn’t mean Sony has put its Blu-ray manufacturing plants out to pasture, however, and it continues to release physical versions of all its first-party games. The upcoming platformer Astro Bot is no different, and there’ll actually be a good reason to plump up for the boxed release.

Even as a LEGO Game, Horizon Adventures' PS5 Visuals Are Off the Charts | Push Square

LEGO Horizon Adventures may not subscribe to the realism of Aloy’s mainline games, but it still looks bloody beautiful. Developed by Guerrilla and Studio Gobo, this is a phenomenal looking co-op outing, which recreates the post-apocalyptic beauty of the tentpole PS5 and PS4 titles using Denmark’s famous bricks. Unlike releases such as LEGO Fortnite, which blends the blocks with other assets, everything here appears to be made of the iconic toys.
